Piglet is 2! could it be too late to bring in another cavy?

well i have had another guinea pig. male. but he became too aggressive with her so i had to get rid of him. he is actually with a neighbour. piglet was by herself for 6 months before getting wilbur. now has been alone for almost a year. is it too late to bring in another cavy?

Make sure the cage is big enough. 4sq feet per piggie. If you get another on make sure it's a female also. You need a place to keep it alone for a couple of weeks to make sure it's healthy and doesn't have parasites on it . If it's scratching you'll need to get a spray from the pet store called 8 in 1 spray for small animals

No, it's never too late for your piggy to have a friend. They are social animals and do much better in pairs or larger herds.

This link will explain a lot:

Also, it can be difficult to house guinea pigs in commercial cages as they are far to small. Check out this site on adequate housing:

I'm sure Piglet would do just fine with a buddy! They truly prefer being with another (or several!) pigs. This is what keeps them healthy %26amp; happy--friends! :)

My suggestion is to adopt another same sex piggie or perhaps a male that has been neutered. Find a local shelter or rescue to help you. A reputable rescue may allow you to bring Piglet with you to ensure a good match. You may be able to locate one near you by doing a search at this link:

One of the foremost keys to success when pairing pigs is a proper introduction. Read the following link regarding introduction techniques %26amp; quarantine. Most pigs that come from rescues have already been quarantined for illness or parasites.

Also take note of your cage space and see if an enlarged cage might be in order:

Good luck! I'm sure Piglet will be thanking you!
